homemade

You know the pictures of the trees with matching ornaments? Some have all red balls or maybe only silver ornaments. Well, that is not the tree I knew growing up (or now, for that matter). We were helping put the ornaments on NoniBop's tree the other day & I loved looking at how hilarious most of them are. It really is fun because who needs fancy ornaments when you have real ones?
To get in the mood, we made Anderson a hand print ornament for our tree!
And we traced his hand on the tree skirt with the year. I read this idea somewhere and I really like it. Each year you add the hand for that year! Festive.

Ok, not an ornament, but homemade in a way. Georgie the ghost always left us a family present & it was always wrapped in different paper. The only one I remember was the gumball machine, but I do remember being excited every year. Mom found these old copies of Georgie books at a library so now Georgie comes to our house, too. We are not content with just Santa bringing gifts.
Our hand prints from when we were in kindergarten.

Nicole made this beautiful ornament. Maybe she should sell these on etsy?
Nicole also made this one. It says Shub, which was our nickname for mom when we were in HIGH SCHOOL! Did she make it in high school? College? Last week?

On to my creative masterpiece. I made this in 6th grade, I think. Gotta love a Catholic school where the craft is a Jesus.

  1. Look, we don't all do mom dedications on our blog, so some of us have to go the homemade ornament route.

See if you get a teacher canvas.

(Is the first pic a butt? It is gross. Also, the handprint turned out awesome, and I love the one on the tree skirt idea!!)!!!

  2. The first picture is a pig.. I think Melissa thought we should have thrown it away, but Aunt Paula and I made those out of nylon stockings.. I am sure Aunt Paula still has hers, you know how sentimental she is. I am glad you took pictures... one of Zack's from kindergarden is so faded you can hardly see it.

I loved Georgie coming to visit.. We started that when Zachary was a baby. They were his favorite books.. Traditions carried on thru the family.. I love it.

I love the idea of the hands on the skirt.. to cute.

  3. Love love the handprints-all of them!
We haven't done the homemade ones yet, but every year we get the kids an ornament that sort of symbolizes them that year or the year they've had. Unpacking those are our kids favorite part of decorating. And my Granny's tree has ornaments on it from when her kids were little, all of the grandkids loved looking through them every year. I remember them more than any gift I ever got. Anderson and Lils will love searching through these ornaments as they get older.

  5. Georgie the ghost! I remember him!! I too love homemade ornaments. I hang my first car on my tree every year. Well the hood ornament, that's all that's left of it. :-)
