Captain Anderson!

We found out that Anderson has a pretty significant cataract in his left eye. It is impairing his vision & forcing him to favor his right eye. Big shout out to Aunt Paula for encouraging us to take him to the eye doctor, which allowed us catch it early. The first step is for him to wear an eye patch 2 hours a day for a month & use dilating drops to help his vision correct itself. Say a prayer that this works! I am going to be honest-I sound calm now, but I was not at first. Nobody wants to hear the words "surgery" and "your son" in the same sentence. I cried, then mom cried because I was crying. The doctor thought we were totally emotionally unstable. Clearly she does not have kids or she would have realized that this was just Tuesday. Anyway, she was very calm & answered my millions of questions & made me feel much better actually. As I sat in the Pediatric Ophthalmology part of Children's Hospital, perhaps the most humbling question was, "There are a million worse things I could be in this hospital for, right?" Kind of put the whole thing in perspective for me. Especially as I walked past Pediatric Cardiology on my way out. A few other things made me feel better, too. First, I think God kind of helped me prepare by making me obsessed with pirates before I even found out he was a he! People, I bought the 1st birthday pirate stuff about a year ago. Second, Teddy Roosevelt (President Extraordinaire) was blind in his left eye!! (I don't like that blind thing, but the LEFT eye!!). Third, Aiden was my favorite of the Jon & Kate sextuplets because of those cute little glasses. I am overly excited because we are trying to make the whole thing seem like a party!
Perfect bug.
Let's just say there is a little spoiling happening in the Glover household. We are pulling out all the stops to distract him from the patch. He gets Brandon's cellphone, I hope him when I vacuum (he LOVES the vacuum), lots of itsy bitsy spider and many rides on his mickey plane around the house. It's a pretty sweet set up actually.

  1. He pulls off the patch like nobody's business! And he is going to be perfectly fine b/c you are awesome parents and caught this early. Jack is totally jealous of the patch - he wants to copy Anderson & wear one too :)

  3. He does look so cute and does not evven bother it. I do agree that doctor did think we were crazy.but it was not because we were crying..It was when Melissa was trying to distract him. She gave him to me to hold at one point while the eye doc examined him and did a cheer in the office. So funny.

  6. OMG! You haven't even mentioned the patch in your emails! I am praying no surgery but if it has to happen you are in a very great place for that type of surgery! Children's Hospital is the bomb!!

  7. I hate he has to wear the patch but hope there will be no surgery. He's coming to Memphis for a second opinion if surgery gets on the table - I insist. I will make an appointment with one of the founding fathers of INFANTSEE - nothing but the best for my newphew
