Our Ditch and The Counter.

When we bought our house, we really had no idea what we were doing. It was a house and that was pretty exciting.  Oh, and we got a pretty nice deal. So, those things were nice. I had no idea what my future (i.e.: 2 boys) would look like or we might have looked at things differently.

First, I would love these things: a laundry room bigger/ closet and a garage that can fit 2 cars. We do not have those things and I am occasionally annoyed. (I fully realize that these are 1st world problems and am embarrassed to say them out loud, but I already did and am too lazy to un-type them.)

BUT...we ALWAYS win because we have a ditch.

Never. That is how often I went into that ditch before Anderson was 2.
A million. That is how many times I have been in that ditch since he turned 2.

Did God know I was going to have boys and they were going to REQUIRE a large space with dirt/rocks/water/bugs/worms/fossil digging/etc and so he placed us directly next to one? Yes, I think he did.

We do so much in "our ditch, " as Anderson calls it. I am honestly thinking of having a birthday party in the ditch, actually.

Digging in the rocks is probably the favorite pastime.

There are many variations of this.

Dry land, water, whatever it is-we will be there.

In addition, we spend quite a bit of time using "The Counter" for various things, like painting,

homemade water balloons,
eating,

more eating

 so many science experiments,

and, sometimes, a nice combination of both eating and science.

  1. Hahaha, I just love this so much. I grew up by a ditch and other people were so judgey about the fact that my parents let us play in it. It was such a wonderland for us as kids. Huge plus for little boys! Please do a birthday party in the ditch - I will officially crown you coolest mom ever. :)
