this kid-Anderson

Anderson at 4 1/2:

First up: these grown up glasses are now what we see when we look at him! He has been telling me for awhile, "I want glasses like you wear in the morning, without a strap."This is our first venture away from Miraflex and I am a little nervous about the undertaking. No plastic, no strap, actual nose pieces...a whole new world for us. But, he is SO excited!
As only the imoms understand, I am still adjusting to his new face. When your small child wears glasses, that is what you see all of the time and changing those is basically the equivalent of changing his face. It is pretty crazy, but I love this new view. I can see so much more of his face now!

LOVES bugs, catching bugs, stalking bugs, talking about bugs and hunting bugs.

Also, very much loves his GG's lap, even though he is a bit too big for it.

Always active. ALWAYS. For example, we created an American Ninja Warrior course on the driveway in the rain just to keep him moving.

Fire. Yes.
Playing (looking for moths) in "the ditch" and loving his Ferg (most of the time.)
Being super sweet when he wants to be especially with the Pieces.
Hanging out with his Noni & participating in the activities I hoard for him (Home Depot bug house.)
Acting like a 4 year old
Bugs.

Sports of any kind, in any capacity.

And apparently, being perfect. We have read (ie: he has listened to) 3 "Chapter" books this summer-Harry Potter, James & the Giant Peach & The Little House in the Big Woods. I am not sure there is anything about this parenting gig that has made me happier than sharing the favorite books of my childhood (& adulthood) with him. The best part is that my kid who can barely sit for 2 minutes will actually listen and LOVES it (possibly because it is a bedtime delay tactic.) His favorite part of our first encounter with the Ingalls' clan is when Pa tells the story of the Panther. Honestly, all of our conversations are pretty funny because of his processing. For example, he was shocked that they only got a piece of candy & mittens for Christmas. I don't know why, it's not like he gets a lot more than that....

Truly, there are some moments of 4 that I LOVE and some that are not my favorite, but overall I think we totally hit the jackpot with this adorable, funny, big hearted, curious, energetic kid!

  1. Those new glasses are wonderful! He looks so grown-up! Chapter books are the best - love seeing the kids get invested in a story and look forward to diving back in the next night!
