Anderson: 3 1/2

Anderson is 3 1/2 and because I feel that he changes so quickly, I don't want to wait another 6 months to do an update post on him.

I have no stats because there is no doc appt, which should be my sign that there does not need to be a post, but whatever.

LOVES: any kind of playing that involves being physical, jumping on/off stuff, "Watch this, Bobble!" when he does his ninja moves, playing anything at all (cars, cities, emergency, airplanes/helicopters, police, etc.), "let's sit in my bed and snuggle and read books, Bobble!", asking questions about every.single.thing, watching a TV show about whatever he is interested in at the moment (I want to watch something about crop dusters, arctic airplanes, rescue helicopters), watching a "real" whatever he is into at the moment on YouTube on the ipad, running around, touching/pinching/hitting me, his Lorax that he sleeps with at night, holding Max, PopTarts, cheetos, little tomatoes, watermelon, pepperoni pizza, frozen french toast, being super sweet and then sort of pyscho all in a span of 5 minutes, playing in his sandbox, Superheroes, making his Bobble happy,  green and orange

NOT so MUCH: meat of any kind (except pepperoni), sitting down, when other people go down the stairs first, when the girls try to eat his food, when I talk on the phone in the car, sharing

He wakes up around 6 usually and goes to bed between 8:30-9...wait for it...BY HIMSELF!! I am not even afraid of the jinx gods when I say this because we had almost 2 years where we had to lay on his floor, so even they feel sorry for us. We do the bedtime routine (teeth, potty, books, kisses, night lights, etc. ) and he stays up there and goes to sleep. Amazing. He still wakes up 1-3 times a night to get a drink/use the bathroom/etc, but the fact that he goes to sleep on his own SO EARLY is the most beautiful thing ever. Still definitely needs a nap, but definitely needs to just sprint the rest of the hours of the day if he takes one.

A few cute things he has said (when I think to remember to write them down):
*I was reading him a book called Ninja Pigs and the moral of the story is to not quit because the only pig who stuck out the practices ended up beating the wolf (and, she was the only girl, which is not a coincidence, but I digress...) So, I said, "See, quitting something is not good..." and he replied, " Like when I am playing with my toys and you tell me to quit, that is not very nice."

*Brandon was in the middle of digging up a drain pipe in the back yard and realized he needed something, so I said I would run to  Home Depot and get it with Max. Anderson wanted to go & Brandon was trying to convince him to stay, but he wanted to go. I said, "It's fine, I know I only have so much time left before I lose this." (meaning him want to hang out with me) and in the car he asked, "Why are you going to lose me?"

*We dropped Chloe off to get groomed and he asked what what was going to happen to her and I said, "They will put her in a tub and spray her down..." Anderson said, "No! I don't want them to spray her down the drain!" (Sometimes I do, but I kept that part quiet)

*"Nobody at my school wears an eyepatch. I'm cool because I wear an eyepatch." (proof that if you tell your kid something enough, he will believe it!)

I actually wish I would've kept up with this because I have forgotten a few of them, but some things he chose to bring for Show & Tell:
D: pic of the dogs
L: pic of Lily
R: Raphael Ninja Turtle
K: Bottle of Ketchup (Keputch)
S: snake
W: whistle

A pic from December that I just found. I like it because I think it shows what being a mom truly means: being more excited about showing your kid a fire truck than he actually is about the fire truck...
This boy really is so sweet. I picked him up from school one day and he frantically ran to his backpack and pulled out this leaf. He told he he found it on the playground and saved it for me. I seriously teared up a bit in the Zebra room.

  1. Not wanting them to spray Chloe down the drain made me laugh out loud!!! Then followed up with the eye patch comment... tears. He is just the sweetest. Love your "being a mom" pic, so true. This post helped me weed through the tantrums and see toddlerhood as not so bad... thanks! ;)

  2. awwww. Love the leaf.
Sweet boy. Wish I knew him personally, I think we'd get along.
Question: so where does "Bobbel" even come from? It's so funny

  3. I still ink Anderson and Jed would be best buddies. Any three year old that can distinguish the difference between an excavator and a bull dozen is awesome.

  4. Please don't make him quit playing with his toys, Bobble! Jeez.

I hope you saved the leaf.
One day, we will be able to go down the stairs first, and life will seem like vacation. But, there will be no surprise leaves in the zebra room. Don't let us be sad about this. Just enjoy the leaf now.

  7. I love reading this blog - who knew all the things that frustrate, anger and nibble at your sanity could be so cute & entertaining when put down on paper (oops the www). Love you & wish everyday that we lived closer so I could be part of their life.
