Zoo trip! Brandon had the idea to go to the zoo & it was so, so fun. I say 'Brandon' because I was a little skeptical based on how expensive it is. BUT, teachers get in free to the Knoxville zoo! I love when free things coincide with me. Anyway, I was super excited because Anderson really loves animals right now & I think it is because so many of his books have animals in them. He knows all of the sounds of most animals & can identify parts, like the elephant's trunk & moose antlers.

One of his definite favorites is "Good Night, Gorilla" from the Queen of Wonderful, Dolly Parton. Even though it doesn't have a real story, it's perfect for his age because he can point out all of the animals & he doesn't really listen to me read a story anyway. He will usually get out his stuffed elephant, lion & monkey to read with us. The only animal he is a little confused on is the hyena-he thinks it is a dog. It does look a little like a ruff ruff. I think one of his favorites is the armadillo. It would definitely be the favorite if we could associate a sound with it. What is an armadillo noise? Does it make one?

Night night, Gorilla!! The zoo was a hit! And, it turns out, that 'night night' bit was good practice for the animals that were snoozing in the heat. But, it wasn't bad. The zoo has done such a great job of creating shade-I honestly was not that hot at all.

By the end of the day, the shorts & adorable animal tie applique were gone. BUT, you will notice the only thing that matters (the patch) survived!

Forget the animals. If there is water & sand, he is in heaven.

Same size!

The otter was a new one. I am going to have be on the lookout for an otter book on our next library visit.

I made sure that Anderson went to the petting zoo part because these snobby/dressed in heels at the zoo/awful people were talking about how their kids will never pet an animal because of germs. Gee, I wish I had their childhood. Plus, there is hand sanitizer right behind us!

Looks like I found a zebra.

I wasn't prepared for him getting soaked in the lily pad play area, so he had naked car ride home. Love those lips!
A little clip of "Goodnight, Gorilla".
Looks like a fun day. I love how his appearance changed during the day.. He looks so big in the car seat with just his diaper on. Precious
ReplyDeleteHe is so smart!!! I'm way impressed with his animal knowledge - I'm pretty sure I don't know many kids who can name the zoo animals! Love his car ride home pic! So sweet. Also, I think the sound an armadillo makes is "CRUNCH!" B/c the only ones i ever see are roadkill :(
ReplyDeleteARMADILLO!! I want to read it with him in September!
ReplyDeleteAlso, love the goat pic. The best one for some reason.
Looks like such a fun age... and patching like a champ! I hope as we venture into toddlerhood somehow we find a way to make it work?! You AND Anderson make it look easy, I know it's not. So happy for you.
ReplyDeleteWe are going to go to the zoo a couple weeks from now. I am about as happy as my oldest son. :) I am still a kid at heart. Looks like you had a great time despite the fact that it wasn't your idea.
