one day i will stop taking pictures. today is not that day.

I walked in the room to see this beautiful, beautiful sight. He got this out & was moving it around like it was really working. I was using the real vacuum (we have 2 big dogs, we need backup) in the kitchen and I think he thought his was on because he could hear the noise. He has been obsessed with vacuums for about a year now & since I do it on an almost daily basis he definitely knows what to do. I think it is funny that the things he imitates are cleaning, picking up dog hair, throwing away trash, shutting doors and yelling at the dogs when they are outside. He has turned into his mother.
I have the perfect husband. I won an award a few weeks ago & I had no idea until it was announced at graduation. As I walked off of the stage, I heard my name and looked up to see my husband, parents & in-laws frantically waving and holding up this 7 foot sign. It was so sweet. My friend, Angela, called my mom to tell her I won and she said by the time she made it back to her room from the office Brandon had already ordered the sign. How lucky for me that he's not just good looking, but thoughtful, too! My parents were supposed to be in Birmingham but they drove back early to be there.
As just another step in Anderson's continuous quest to make my life as easy & cheap as possible, his skin has decided to demand change. Diaper rash has been this boy's friend (enemy) since birth. I have pics of him laying on his tummy sans diaper during his early days, we have tried every diaper rash cream/product I can get my hands on, switched diapers & used 3 prescriptions. When my latest attempt at letting him go commando (no diaper, just shorts) ended with a load of laundry for both of us, I realized we needed professional help. His doc was out of town, but another doc told us chlorine free diapers, crisco & more commando time. This advice came after many questions regarding the "eye". ("Infant cataracts are exceedingly rare" & "I've never actually seen one...") Now, what is hilarious about this advice is that I have heard numerous times from Mom about how, "We had to use Crisco on your cousin, Keith." I, of course, thought that was back in the olden days & surely not really true. It is. Because I trust the internet more than his doctor (kidding), I did my own bit of research. This "bag balm" kept popping up repeatedly & after a little investigation, I got some at CVS. It is marketed as "perfect for your cow's chapped udders" so, of course it makes total sense to use on my son. I will keep you all posted as I'm sure you are as curious as I am about this udder product. We went to a musical production of a tractor book at the library with Jack & Aunt Clare! It was awesome because it involved tractors, books & his cousin/BFF. Clare & I decided that they are really like cousins which makes the friendship even better! The matching tractor shirts didn't hurt, either!
Obsessed with this bow he found in a drawer. Took it everywhere with us.

We had this last year but he knows what to do in it now. It really is more fun inside than outside.
Summer fashion.

Christmas Eve comes once a week in our house. Every Sunday night we get ready for the Big day-Garbage Truck day!! Judging from the video, clearly I think it is Christmas, too.

  1. So, when I started the post I thought the vacumn was to funny. But then the video is hilarious. I was excited myself in anticipation of the arrival of the garbage truck listening to you and watching him. Love it.

  2. jacob also loved the garbage truck. when he was a toddler, we lived in oakland, and they had TWO garbage pick up days!!! can you imagine the joy??!! anyway, one summer day i mentioned (probably talking more to myself but whatever) that they men must be hot (there were usually 3 because they didn't have the trucks with the arms that picked up the cans, they had to pick up the garbage out of the cans themselves. and if you threw something in there randomly, not in a bag, you got fussed at. just ask my mom). upon mentioning that they must be hot, toddler jake ran to the fridge we had in the garage and had a conniption when he couldn't open it. i couldn't figure out what the fuss was about, until i opened the door for him and he grabbed water bottles!!! he furiously ran them down the driveway to the men. so sweet!!! yes, so sweet until this became the bi-weekly (did you hear me? BI-WEEKLY AND THERE WERE 3 MEN)routine and i had to start budgeting in water bottles like i budget a car note...

  4. oh, sorry, i forgot to add that once they started getting water bottles twice a week, the garbage men stopped caring about whether a stray piece of garbage was in the can...and they also rolled my can back up to my house for me :)

  11. Hope the new diapers work but if not, don't underestimate the power of Crisco - and don't use baby power or cornstarch on him that will hold in the moisture.
I remember Jacob & his garbage trucks (any truck for that matter until I took him to see a real fire truck) it is fun to watch little boys with their trucks.
