We have been planning a trip to Washington, D.C. for Fall Break for almost 2 years and it was SO exciting when it finally arrived!
Noni took us to the airport at 6am and we began the process of basically eating junk food/overpaying for snacks immediately.
His third plane ride!
His second.
Our hotel was downtown, so it was close to quite a few things. It also had an indoor pool, free breakfast AND a separate room to give us a tiny bit more space from each other.
As soon as we arrived, we dropped our bags & walked to the Archives & then to the Museum of Natural History. It was probably the best of all of the museums-SO many cool things!
Megaladon jaw!
Full-size model of one!
Really cool that we were actually there.
Stuffed rhino that Teddy preserved. I could have taken hundreds of pictures in the museum; everything was really impressive.
We are quite a few meals from food trucks.
We also ate a lot of ice cream.
Hotel snack time in the afternoon was always a fun time.
Air & Space Museum!
Of course Max chose Legos as his souvenir.
It took quite a few attempts to get all 5 of us in this.
Anderson was really excited about posing and we experimented with a lot of options.
LINCOLN! I missed this moment because Max decided he had to go to the bathroom, which was not close.
We made it up there, too! So, so cool.
We ordered pizza a few nights & it was probably one of their favorite parts of the trip.
We basically made them walk around 5 miles the first day and did not realize it until we were back in our room and looked at the map.
Crossing the streets required constant vigilance because, according to Max, the white lines (or, black lines? I think it kept changing) were lava.
Ford's Theatre was definitely one of our favorite stops and it was only about 5 minutes from our hotel.
Crazy!
We did the entire museum in Ford's Theatre and in the Peterson House & there was so much information. We really enjoyed it.
So.much.walking.
FBI Building!
We rented scooters quite a few times and discovered that they were really handy and actually pretty fun.
Poor Max was stuck with me & he busted his lip when I slammed on the brakes. But, he was a trooper and got back on later that same night.
Air & Space Museum!
Neil Armstrong's spacesuit! It has its own bodyguard.
Posing.
Love.
He made this out of rocks for me and it was so sweet.
Washington Monument in the background!
D-Day IMAX was so informative and so well done-definitely one of the best parts of the trip.
Their first IMAX movie
We scootered over to the Law Enforcement Memorial.
They both fell asleep in one of our Uber rides.
Max was obsessed with these lions outside of our hotel.
Busted lip. Bless his heart.
Uber ride.
We LOVED the National Zoo!
More ice cream...
We headed over to Arlington to walk around and see the "Changing of the Guard." They both said that it was one of their favorite parts.
Anderson was begging to go to the Gucci store, so we stopped by and looked at insanely expensive shoes.
We also found a coffee shop and devoured a delicious Nutella bar & a latte.
Late-night walk to dinner.
White House tour!
I loved all of the Teddy references!
This was taken at Max's request.
American History Museum-we spent a lot of time in the war exhibit.
Brandon, explaining the Vietnam conflict to Max.
They spent so much time playing football in every possible green space during the entire trip.
The Capitol is literally behind my head.
We did a Captiol Tour with one of Burchett's interns.
Loooooots of hangout time in the hotel room.
Doughnuts in the airport on the way home. The Washington Monument is in the background!
Even though we were exhausted by the end (of the first day...) I am so, so happy that we did this and that we now have all of these positive memories together.
