So my students have been pretty busy reminding me that I have the best job in the world. For the 4th year in a row, a real Christmas tree has appeared in my room. Past students make sure the next class knows the tradition & get the tree to keep the fun alive. It is my favorite. My students made "review" ornaments to decorate & someone put the angel on the tree(Reagan!)
Not to be outdone, my Jewish students (shout out to Skye!) brought in a Hanukkuh "shrub". My favorite part is that it is sitting on the "Merry Christmas" rug.
Then, in sort of a weird twist, my Catholic students made a sign to decorate the "Catholic House Plant. " I realize that Catholics celebrate Christmas. This originated over candy. A Jewish student brought in rolos to put under the Jewish tree & everyone was fighting over them as I walked into class. So, I said, "Only Jewish people can have the candy!" Yes, it sounds weird. Anyway, as the Jewish kids were gorging themselves on rolos, the Catholic kids plotted to have their own candy stash. The whole tree thing has really gotten a bit out of hand. You know, in the best way possible.
We have also been crazy busy the past week with random things, ending in a trip to Birmingham (more on that later!) Here we are at a basketball game with Jack!! They literally just chased each other around entertaining everyone & exhausting themselves.
Wish this one was clearer! How cute is his face??
Yet another attempt at a pic with the cheerleaders. It was "Santa" theme night at the game. (Another reason to love high school kids-theme nights!)
Love this one!
Time for another haircut! The boy might not look like me, but he sure has my amount of hair.
We watched a friend's 4 month old baby & Anderson was SO good. There was just a brief bit of jealousy when Anderson started saying, "My the baby" & climbed in the carrier.

Friends!
Brandon's friend had a surprise 40th party at Calhoun's & it was SO great because they had it in the back room so Anderson was just trapped in there & we let him run around. He decided it was time to entertain everyone by break dancing. Complete with (attempted) hand stands & flips. Since his friend has 1 year old twins, he even had friends to dance with, which was fun.
Cake with Dad.
Always. I figure it is easier to clean it up after I am done cooking than try to entertain him at the same time.
We made a stop at Walgreens* last week where Anderson became obsessed with this package of puppy training pads. It was so weird. He was hugging them & carrying them around. I told him we were not getting them & he insisted that he was. He even tried to sneak behind the counter to buy them. We left to cries of, "my puppy pads!" There was not even a puppy picture on them. It really was just weird. And, just another reminder of why a kid is so entertaining.
*In case you are wondering why on earth I entered a Walgreens, it is because they had a great deal on toddler DHA It is normally $17 at CVS, but it was on clearance for $6.89 at Walgreens & there was a $5 off coupon in the Walgreens coupon book! That made it less than $2 for a month supply! I bought 4 of them, so $8 for 4 months! This DHA thing could totally be a gimmick, but I feel like the boy is a bit behind the starting line with the one eye so a little extra help can't hurt. (I will never pay $17, though.)
He has this red rash/dry skin on his face that I can't get to clear up. Does anyone have a suggestion? He has sensitive skin & has 2 prescriptions for diaper rash & eczema, but I have just been putting Aveeno on his face. Awesome pic, I know.
How fun is this? The YMCA sent us a pic from our breakfast with Santa!

Make sure his lotion is fragrance free, not just unscented. Fragrance is added even it's unscented. Use ceptaphil to wash. I think aveeno has baby line too. It's bad this time of year. When you go out make sure his face stays dry. I know, I know...one more thing! Love you!
ReplyDeleteI love the pic of the kids in the bed.. They are looking at each other and thinking 'like what are you doing in here'. In regard to the puppy pads, I think he wants you to get another puppy. :)
ReplyDelete(or maybe a baby)
These are such cute pictures of Anderson, just makes you want to hug him (even if he cries). Glad he likes the book, hope it is not to much of a bore for you to read.
ReplyDeleteLOVE him behind the counter with the puppy pads. I may try to find him some puppy pads.
ReplyDeleteAlso...maybe aquaphor? I think that is what I put on lily's when is chapped,a nd I think it works. Also, try chapstick? It is easier to apply? Lily always got/gets chapped lips.
Love the rolo story and the tree pics. Of course. Better than a bonus.
The school pics make me miss school. Holidays are so fun with the students, we always did silly things in the classroom too. Next September will be here soon enough.
ReplyDeleteBoth my littles have dry skin, eczema on their face. Easton especially with all the patch adhesives too. We have prescription stuff to use, but mostly I use Eucerin almost everyday around his eyes at night. It seems to keep it at bay and prevent big flare ups. Not sure it will help heal but it will help prevent!
Good luck.
I LOVE the tree, bush, and plant in your classroom! I also love that you can do that and the kids and parents do not attack you for not being politically correct - I have been chastised at work for saying Christmas Break instead of Winter Break a million times. Anderson is looking so big these days! I have no experience with dry skin/eczema, but I will send you moral support!
ReplyDeleteLove Nicole's comment about "better than a bonus." So true. It's the little things, really, that making teaching totally worth it. Kai has recently developed a really bad reaction to Aveeno. Just a thought...
ReplyDeleteMy favorite part of all of this is that most of your pictures of him are blurry. That to me is a true testament to how awesome this boy is. No real toddler has in focus pictures! He is adorable!!!
ReplyDeleteI too would recommend aquaphor. I have had dry red skin in the winter my whole life and this stuff is the bomb! A little goes a long way, that's why they sell it so small by the way. I hope this helps!!
