Pappaw!

So, here's the thing: I love all veterans, especially of the WWII caliber. I just really do. Every time I look at the WWII scene on my classroom wall or show my students my sand from Omaha Beach (smells like democracy, I always say) I am reminded of just how much I love them. I love the fact that they were willing to fight for freedom for people they didn't even know. I love that most of them were teenagers who left behind their families, comfort and, in some cases, their futures. I love that their families (let's be honest, their moms) were able to let them go. What I like most is that they didn't question their responsibility; they went where they were needed and didn't even ask for anything in return. Imagine my luck when I married Brandon & gained a Pappaw who not only fought at Normandy but at the Battle of the Bulge!! Because of his courage & dedication, his name was added to the WWII monument in Maryville. Look at the name on the bottom left...

The Battle of the Bulge was the last German offensive & they were pushed back by the Allies in the winter or 1944, which led to the victory in May 1945. If you haven't seen "Band of Brothers", you need to watch it. The Battle of the Bulge part is very intense. Seriously, I cried a lot.

The 4 generations of Andersons!
After the monument viewing, we had dinner and Anderson provided the entertainment by dancing on the bench outside of the restaurant. He wore the little mummy hat all day after I found it in my Halloween decorations from last year. I think he really liked it.

  7. You see Shannon, here is how it works...My grandfather's last name is Anderson. My mother's maiden name; therefore, is Anderson. My middle name is Anderson. Finally, my son's first name is Anderson. We represent four generations from the same family. Let me know if i need to construct a flow chart for you. Just kidding!
