Anderson 5th Grade Fall Sports: Football, Cross Country & Basketball

Anderson ran Cross Country again this year and I think he has his favorite season in Elementary School. He only made it to 2 regular season meets (football games were on the same nights as most of the meets) but he was able to go to most of the practices and the final meets.

After one of them, we stopped at Lenny's & it was delicious.

Because of Covid, they had to run in waves with ONLY kids from their school, which was very different than past seasons. It helped with the traffic situation, but it was weird to see so few kids out there.
After his first meet, he asked for new shoes. I had been offering them for a month, but he never wanted to actually go to the store and get any, so I waited until he cared enough to ask for them.
End of first meet-I take horrible pics, but he is still pretty cute.
It POURED at the Regional meet. I did not bring a rain jacket or umbrella, so I had to use one of Anderson's hoodies that was in the car. We were both soaked and freezing. And, my car got stuck in the muddy field that was being used a parking lot; we only escaped because 2 nice strangers pushed me out of it.
Some of the 5th grade boys.

The rain didn't stop him from setting his PR! His goal for the season was to run under 6 in a race and it was so awesome to watch him reach it!

This was at the state meet-he was SO ready to beat his PR and was really fired up about it. Then, he was stung by a yellow jacket AS THE RACE WAS STARTING. It was insane and honestly so unfair. He was crying as the race started, but he ran anyway and I was really proud of him for learning how to handle disappointment. Even though the ending was not what he wanted, I am so proud of him for working so hard during this season.

During Quarantine, I was really afraid that football was going to be canceled. I know that should have been the least of my concerns, but it was not because we really need football in this house. It started late, but it STARTED and HAPPENED! After one of his first practices, he walked over to me, lifted up his helmet and handed me a tooth. Boys are so odd.

The Farragut Press came to his first game and took some awesome pics.

I love this stiff arm picture.
Rain delay at the Fulton game-he was showing Max the plays on his arm band thing. So cute.
Winter snuck up on us at one of the practices and I had to share my fleece with Max.
The team went to the 7th Grade Championship game.

ALL OF THE ENTERTAINING OF MAX at games.
Another parent took this pic after they beat Fulton for the first time in 4 years-it was so exciting.
Max always tried to join the practices.

Kicking practice one night.
This was after they won their 2nd Playoff game. He was so excited.
Love.
The team.

Tackling.

CHAMPIONSHIP
They won the ENTIRE LEAGUE and it was truly so amazing to see all of their hard work pay off. The game went into overtime (0-0). Catholic scored & made the extra point (running) so it was 7-0. We scored and then they sent Anderson out to kick. If he made it, they won and if he missed, it would be a really long night in our house....

HE MADE IT!!!

It was so exciting.

The banquet was at McFee Park & the football players and cheerleaders basically took over the park.
I did not take many pics.

Screenshot of the kick...
Another one. Love.

The Farragut Press did a story on their team!

So, so cool.

Camping

Brandon took the boys "real camping" (per Max) over a weekend in November and they had the best time. I am so grateful to Brandon for finding the time to plan all of this while working all of the time and balancing all of the other parts of life.

Apparently Max fell in that creek later in the day...

They couldn't bring a cooler, so they had to eat these camping meals. They actually liked most of them!
They had to hike to the campsite.

Max loved his headlamp. He was definitely there for the gear.

Love, love, love.
They sad they went to bed before 8 because there wasn't any light outside! Also, apparently the s'mores were delicious.

This makes me so happy.

It really was actual camping.

They loved it & I hope that I get to join them next time!
